AWE Talks: Defining XR's Building Blocks
AWE USA 2023

Welcome back to AWE Talks, our series that revisits the most engaging content from AWE’s catalog of conference sessions. The past year has seen a rich library of insights including AWE USA, AWE Asia, and AWE Europe.

This week, we dive into XR's building blocks. Specifically, how is AWS supporting the XR ecosystem with tools to help create, automate, and deliver immersive experiences? An AWS team breaks down its multi-angle approach.

See the summarized takeaways below, along with the full session video. Stay tuned for more video highlights each week and check out the full library on AWE’s YouTube Channel.

– Like several other tech gold rushes, ample opportunity awaits in XR picks & shovels.
– As one of the foremost enabling tech tools in the web era, AWS recognizes this.
– Its ability to host and deliver experiences is particularly primed for the needs of XR.
– This occurs on several levels which map to AWS' cloud compute & storage strengths.
– For one, XR creators can scale visual data with spatial data planes.
  – This takes the concept of data lakes and modularizes it for functionality & security.
  – For example, individual 3D assets can be scaled to several permissioned endpoints.
– A second key area is automating 3D creation pipelines for photogrammetry.
   – This is all about supporting the complex process of creating 3D models for XR.
   – The name of the game is to optimize this time-consuming and compute-intensive work.
– A third area of development is to use AI to help automate XR development workflows.
   – Amazon Rekognition can help identify and tag elements of spatial data scenes.
   – Amazon SageMaker can analyze lidar scans and for contextual understanding.
– All of these components together can optimize and automate AR creation.
– These tools also have broad applicability to consumer & enterprise XR use cases.
